Letter of intent

At this point in my career, I only select few applications that are essential to my practice and ongoing research. As you can confirm, all the residencies I took part in the last years were on limit natural geographical sites. My work has been internationally recognised for its site-specific research, namely on worldwide challenging geological landscapes, isolated communities, and extreme weather patterns. These include the Sahara Desert (TWOM, 2015), the Rainforests of Brazil (Resiliência,2017), Siberia, Russia (Permafrost,2018) and Vietnam’s ethnic villages (BlindSignal,2019).
I am particularly interested in this residency at Clermont-Ferrand for the city´s location on the footstep of the Chaine des Puys, the most important Volcanic chain in Central Europe. In the past I have personally conducted some short research in the Auvergne Region for the piece “Cartographies” and became very interested in developing a longer period of research work.
Currently I am developing a series of works in Central Europe, where I explore the opposition/symbiotic relations between industrial technological sites and Natural Landscapes. The last example is “Rhone” a work developed in Switzerland, where I spent months 6 months recording on the Ice Caves of the Rhone Glacier, as well as a nearby Gravel Factory. (www.delindro.com/rhone).
In Clermont-Ferrand I intend to develop a research on the cities archives of the Volcanic Region, and explore several locations on the Chaîne des Puys, by developing field Recordings that use prepared microphones, Geosensors and other data collecting technics. Although the final work will always depend on the experience on site, I propose to create a new Installation piece that explores peculiar relations between human settlements and the National Park. I also commit to create a documental archive that maps soundscapes of the region (organised by location and method). Such archive will be open-sourced online for both the public, future artist residents or other Scientific researchers.
Through various media and technics, my works interrogate in each ways the human perception of “Nature” can be challenged, creating pieces that deal with real ephemeral events and a constant clash between “man-made” and “biological structures”. Without engaging in any direct social-political questions, my practice naturally unveils them to the public discourse, offering neutral points of view on the contemporary struggle between humans and their rapidly changing environment.
